Behind the Blog

Hey everyone, welcome to my blog!

I figured it was about time I tell you a little bit about me and why I decided to start blogging (just in case you were wondering).

First things first, my name is Hannah (though my friends call me Han). I am currently a second year student at Iowa State where my most favorite things are Kairos, Dance Marathon, movie nights with friends and, of course, ISU football games! Over the past few years, I have found a passion for traveling, writing, education, and my faith -- so if you stick around you can expect to read a few posts on these topics.

I got the crazy idea to start a blog over a year ago and if I'm being honest, I wasn't too fond of it at first. I carried the idea with me for about five months before finally deciding to share something that had been on my heart for a long time. Doing something like this is WAY outside my comfort zone, but I gave in and decided to start blogging for three reasons:
Number 1: Over the past year, I have had the pleasure of becoming friends with the kindest, most authentic person I know. My friend Danielle has an obvious love for Jesus and she lives out her faith every single day, which is something I try -- and oftentimes fail -- to do. Her blog, Just Danielle Things, is what inspired me to start one of my own. (You'd be doing yourself a favor if you checked it out.)
Number 2: I wanted a safe space where I can say what I want to say. Mostly about my faith, occasionally about my other passions. Despite the name of my blog, I want to use this space to embrace who the Lord made me to be and share what he's teaching me in the season I'm currently in. Through sharing my blog posts so far, I've learned how being transparent about my thoughts and my feelings can encourage those around me. And my goal with this blog is to encourage those around me -- maybe even challenge your perspectives from time to time.
Number 3: I really like it outside my comfort zone.

Feel free to tag along while I attempt to figure this whole blogging thing out. I'm so happy you're here and hope you will find as much encouragement in these words as I do!

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."
- Mark 16:15

Have a Little Faith

Ever since I shared my first blog post back in August, I haven't really allowed myself the time to keep writing. School started, life got busy, and the words weren't coming as easily to me. In light of our current situation, the past few days have given me the time that I normally would not have given myself. I figure now is as good a time as any to share what's been on my heart -- and I hope you find these words as encouraging as I do. Just a few months ago, when we looked towards 2020 and all we hoped it would contain, I'm sure a global pandemic wasn't on anybody's radar. I think over the past week, we've come to realize that this is a situation we have very little control over. Yes, you should wash your hands and yes, you should practice social distancing -- but ultimately, if we could control the extensiveness of this pandemic we would not be in this situation. I recently heard somebody say that in times of uncertainty you can feed your fears or you ...

My Best "Thank You"

Grandparents are without a doubt one of the greatest blessings in the whole world and I am fortunate enough to have had nine (yes, nine) of them. They're kind of like Disney movies -- it's impossible to pick a favorite. Each of my grandparents means so much to me and I so badly wish I could've lived next door to all of them growing up. I was lucky enough, however, to live just a short 30 minutes away from my Grandma and Grandpa Roush for the first 17 years of my life. My siblings and I have spent so much time at their house over the years. I know because of that, these two in particular have had a huge impact on the person I've become today. I wanted to find a way to let them know how much they mean to me, because I'm not sure I've ever told them. Some of my best childhood memories can be attributed to weekends spent at my Grandma Marilyn and Grandpa Jerry's. My siblings and I would spend our days climbing trees, having water fights, and eating toma...
